Women, Peace and Security / WPS Intern

Women, Peace and Security / WPS Intern

Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina

Internship/Fellowship

2024-04-05

The Position:

UNFPA invests in the area of gender equality and prevention of violence against women, in line with its mandate, and strives to achieve changes at three levels: improved services and protections for survivors of violence; raised public awareness and conducive norms and values to support true equity between men and women; and transformed values and norms that drive perpetrators to commit violence against women. In addition, UNFPA also invests efforts into promoting the agenda of Women, Peace and Security, and within it - aspects related to provision of support to survivors of Conflict-Related Sexual Violence (CRSV). This segment is tackled through supporting and expanding governments’ capacities to provide care and support to survivors, including their families and communities (reduction of stigmatization). UNFPA BIH is also strongly promoting women economic empowerment and promotion of gender equality in society through Gender Responsive Family Friendly Policies (GRFFP).

UNFPA is seeking candidates that transform, inspire and deliver high impact and sustained results; the successful candidate has to be transparent, exceptional in how they manage the resources entrusted to them and who commit to deliver excellence in programme results.

A work plan with achievements for the duration of the Internship and learning opportunities will be agreed upon. Regular meetings with Intern and close contact via email, discussing processes and work related outcomes will lead to a beneficial environment for the Intern.

Internship assignments vary in length according to the academic requirements of the intern, as well as the needs of the organization. This internship assignment lasts three months, but may be extended up to a maximum of nine months if the intern can demonstrate that it will award them an educational credit for a course.

How you can make a difference:

UNFPA is the lead UN agency for delivering a world where every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe and every young person's potential is fulfilled.  UNFPA’s strategic plan (2022-2025), reaffirms the relevance of the current strategic direction of UNFPA and focuses on three transformative results: to end preventable maternal deaths; end unmet need for family planning; and end gender-based violence and harmful practices. These results capture our strategic commitments on accelerating progress towards realizing the ICPD and SDGs in the Decade of Action leading up to 2030. Our strategic plan calls upon UN Member States, organizations and individuals to “build forward better”, while addressing the negative impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic on women’s and girls’ access to sexual and reproductive health and reproductive rights, recover lost gains and realize our goals.

In a world where fundamental human rights are at risk, we need principled and ethical staff, who embody these international norms and standards, and who will defend them courageously and with full conviction.

UNFPA is seeking candidates that transform, inspire and deliver high impact and sustained results; we need staff who are transparent, exceptional in how they manage the resources entrusted to them and who commit to deliver excellence in programme results.
