I believe that young people are the agents of change. Opening the eyes of young people in our community and reducing prejudices could be a key factor in preserving peace in our country.
I believe that young people can change a lot in the community, and also the media, as a very important and strong factor in the 21st century, can play one of the key roles in achieving the desired goals, but also in motivating young people to engage more actively involved in making a change in the society in which we live.
I am 28 years old and studied graphic design and multimedia (BA) at the American University in Bosnia and Herzegovina (I graduated in 2017). My previous education was a mixture of international and national education because I was born in Sydney, Australia, and returned to Sarajevo with my parents 13 years ago. I finished secondary education in Sarajevo in the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme.
I am a content creator working for “Ringier”, a Swiss media company based in Bosnia and Herzegovina with two news websites: bosnainfo and srpskainfo. The fields I cover are digital marketing, website traffic, graphics and website setup. I also work as a manager and public relations adviser at the “Ću-Ću” pre-school.
I am of the opinion that my rich and varied perspective and experience during my early education, as well as my current job, could contribute to helping our local community to promote good values, to discuss problems related to education, communication and everything that burdens our society.
Some solutions that could be used in our system in a wide range of areas that interest me include: graphic design, media/news, art. In these spheres, we can implement many things, such as peace journalism. Building motivational peacebuilding campaigns is also a great idea for intercultural dialogue and cooperation in our community. This is also very popular in multinational companies that strive to create an innovative approach to intercultural understanding, including interfaith understanding and peace. This approach could also be applied to promoting peace in our society in which we live.
Peacebuilding and design are dynamic processes that involve engagement, understanding the context, building trust, communication and interaction. Peace is not something that we can consider as “abstract”. It is something that can be achieved locally and is tangible and possible. That is why, I am looking forward to my engagement in the UNFPA peace programme within which I want to give my full contribution and use all my knowledge.
