Sarajevo and Banja Luka, 1 December 2021 – As we mark 1 December, World AIDS Day, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), in cooperation with the Sarajevo Open Center, the Partnership for Public Health, and Perpetuum Mobile – Institute for Youth and Community Development, has promoted today in Sarajevo and Banja Luka the International Technical and Programmatic Guidance on Out-of-School Comprehensive Sexuality Education.

Interactive youth workshops were held as part of the promotional events for the Guidance in Sarajevo and Banja Luka, focusing on the prevention of HIV/AIDS and stigmatization of persons living with HIV. Quizzes for the participants were also organized, and symbolic awards were presented.

The Guidance has been published as support provided for comprehensive sexuality education is increasing globally, and it supports the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development with an underlying principle that no one should be left behind, including marginalized groups, such as young people, persons with disabilities, persons living with HIV, refugees, migrants etc.

“The United Nations Population Fund remains committed to strengthening and promoting universal values represented in this Guidance, including gender equality, dignity, social inclusion and human rights for all. It also encourages the creators of the out-of-school curriculum to use the International Guidance on Out-of-School Comprehensive Sexuality Education for the purpose of promoting the empowerment, self-determination and health of young people who are at the highest risk of negative outcomes. They include also those who are experiencing, among other things, violence and discrimination, marginalization, poverty, HIV and other sexually transmitted infections”, said John Kennedy Mosoti, the UNFPA Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina.
