Bijeljina, 27 September 2023 – The celebration of the Fusion Fiesta at the vibrant and inclusive Fusion Fiesta Festival took place yesterday at Bijeljina’s city square. As part of the UNFPA, United Nations Population Fund project "Moving Us Closer". The festival aims to promote social cohesion, reduce prejudice and discrimination, and encourage intercultural dialogue and reconciliation among young people from seven cities: Sarajevo, East Sarajevo, Banja Luka, Tuzla, Brčko, Bosanski Petrovac, and Bijeljina.

Hector Ramirez, UNFPA Programme Analyst emphasized the importance of youth in our society: “Amidst the challenges that Bosnia and Herzegovina faces, the unwavering optimism, innovative solutions, and demonstrated perseverance of young people remind us that there is still time to redirect the world towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. This event serves as a beacon of hope, demonstrating the potential of youth-led initiatives to shape a better future for all”.

"The city of Bijeljina is very happy to participate in such projects because we believe that inclusion is a very important segment of life. In the past 20 years, we have supported similar projects that aim to enable the inclusion of persons with disabilities," said Mayor's advisor Radoslav Ostojić.

Among the highlights are an inclusive inter-municipal youth basketball competition featuring teams from across BiH, a football training, and a friendly athletics competition. It is important to note that this activity is happening under the broader UN campaign titled “12 days of peace”.

"This festival is a testament to the power of young individuals in driving positive change within their communities. Let us embrace inclusivity and recognize the significance of this celebration to promote unity, intercultural dialogue, and mutual understanding", remarked by the Italian Ambassador to BiH Marco Di Ruzza.

The Fusion Fiesta Festival will continue to promote social inclusion, peace, and unity in Bosanski Petrovac, Tuzla, Brčko, East Sarajevo, ending its tour in Banja Luka on 1 November 2023.
