The Position:

The Communication Assistant will work with the Country office team to provide his/her services in five key components: Sexual and reproductive health (SRH), Youth, Gender, Humanitarian response and population Dynamics (PD) relating to the preparation of all aspects related to communications. He/she will report to the Communications Analyst.

Job Purpose:

The Communication Assistant will work with the Country office team to provide his/her services in five key components: Sexual and reproductive health (SRH), Youth, Gender, Humanitarian response and population Dynamics (PD) relating to the preparation of all aspects related to communications. 

You will:

  • Assist the Communications component in planning, organizing, and executing the activities including among other things the following processes;
  • Support the UNFPA Communications Analyst with social media plans for events, activities and other social media contents;
  • Maintains social media profiles (Facebook, Insta and Twitter) and timely responds to direct messages and moderates comments and feedback;
  • Help organize events related to corporate communications strategies and programmes;
  • Collect and analyse press articles in national, regional, and international press that pertain to SRH, Gender, Youth, Humanitarian Response and PD - related issues and to work of UNFPA;
  • Contribute to the production of info-graphics and visual products, such as snapshots, maps, illustrations, leaflets, banners and other promotional materials;
  • Assist with translations of small texts for social media or internal communication;
  • Draft and upload text and multimedia content, including feature articles, to online communication platforms;
  • Support in maintaining Country office social media accounts and website by preparing social media posts relating to the work of UNFPA;
  • Assists in conducting of joint events and initiatives in collaboration with the UN Communications Group, as well as other Agencies;
  • In collaboration with UNFPA communication colleagues from the Balkan cluster (Serbia, North Macedonia and Kosovo (under SCR1244)), develops group of practice in the region with the aim of ensuring harmonized work on the promotion of UNFPA mission and objectives;
  • Assists with and participates in joint Regional Office and cluster initiatives;
  • Drafting, editing and proof-reading of materials, capturing key messages of UNFPA portfolio, collating amendments from colleagues (including, but not limited to concept notes, brochures, and any other public information advocacy materials and campaigns);
  • Maintain events calendar, ensuring timely preparation of promotional activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience: 

Education:  

Undergraduate degree in the field of Advertising or Design, Journalism, Arts or related fields with emphasis on creative aspects.

Knowledge and Experience: 

  • Small-scale coordination and administrative experience.
  • Knowledge of social media is essential.
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience at the national level in communications and/or in design.
  • Proficiency in current office software applications and digital platforms.
  • Usage of software applications (Photoshop, PaintNet, Illustrator, InDesign, Acrobat, Premier Pro,  and other graphics applications) distinct advantage;
  • Experience in producing communication materials (printed and online) for a variety of media;
  • Good understanding of IC technologies;
  • Ability to adapt to new environments and to establish and maintain good working relations with individuals of different cultural backgrounds;

Languages: 

  • Written and spoken proficiency in English and local languages;
