Assignment Title: Youth Intern 

Organizational Context: 

CO Bosnia and Herzegovina has been established in 1995. At present it employs one international staff (UNFPA Representative) and 14 national staff. The basis for CO work is the current 2015-2020 Country Programme Document (CPD) consisted of four project components (Sexual and reproductive health, Youth, Gender-based violence and Population and development). Work plans for each year are developed on annual basis (usually in January each year) while non-core funds are fundraised based on calls for applications by external donors. Major non-core funded project is the joint Conflict-Related Sexual Violence programme implemented together with UNDP, IOM and UN Women that started in 2014 and is currently approved by end of March 2020. Another joint non-core funding initiative is related to emergency preparedness (initiative by UNFPA, UNDP, UNICEF, FAO and UNESCO funded by Swiss Development Agency as of 2019).

Under the direct supervision and guidance of SRH/Youth Programme Analyst, the intern will assist with implementation of Youth component activities to focus on the cross-cutting youth elements and interconnections with activities of the entire UNFPA BIH programmatic priorities. Namely, Intern will 
support monitoring and evaluation, results and impacts of youth elements in different aspects of youth related programmatic issues what will enable support process of the new project proposal developments. 

A work plan with achievements for the duration of the Internship and learning opportunities will be agreed upon. Regular meetings with Interns and close contact via email, discussing processes and work related outcomes will lead to a beneficial environment for the Intern.

 

Task description

1.    Support monitoring and evaluation, results and impacts of youth elements through the whole set of UNFPA’s interventions;
2.    Support in preparation of proposal development and implementation of new projects focused on youth and its interconnection to the other program priorities that are not exclusively focused on youth issues;
3.    Support in the implementation of the Western Balkan Reconciliation and Peacebuilding RYCO Project, Youth and Peace Building assessment, potential joint programmes within UN BIH agencies, and youth related connections throughout the SRH and Youth, and CRSV components;
4.    Support in collecting, analyzing documents, assessment, design and update of database of the past, on-going and potential youth developments within UNFPA, UNCT, NGOs and governmental levels;
5.    Support in interaction with UNCT agencies, especially in relation to the work of Youth Task Force in view to exchange information and develop capacity in order to efficiently support ongoing and development of new initiatives as part of One UN; 
6.    Assist in preparation of communication materials, in coordination with programme team and mentored by Communication Assistant; 
7.    Preparation of promotional and advocacy materials under the programme portfolio by campaign on the best practices, knowledge, experiences and human stories, linked with relevant SDG targets.

Qualifications and Experience

1.    University Degree or MA student in Social sciences degree, preferably in psychology, gender studies, health sciences
2.    Previous experience on topics relating to youth highly desirable
3.    Fluency in English and local language (B/H/S) is mandatory requirement
4.    Ability to think and work logically and work precisely with attention to detail
5.    Ability to write clearly and concisely
6.    Initiative, sound judgment and demonstrated ability to work harmoniously with staff members of different national and cultural backgrounds.

Financial Aspects 

Interns do not receive a salary or any other form of remuneration from UNFPA. The costs associated with an intern's participation in the programme must be assumed either by the nominating institution, which may provide the required financial assistance to its students, or by the students themselves, who will have to meet living expenses as well as make their own arrangements for accommodation, travel and other requirements. In addition, applicants must have medical insurance for the duration of the internship. Proof of insurance will need to be submitted before the internship begins.
